Cabelte has a long and renowned experience on the manufacturing of low voltage power cables. The company history dates back to 1938, at that time under the name of Jomar, latter giving birth to Cabelte.
Throughout the years, the market verifies a significant progression, requiring improved cables for new applications as well as more restricted and demanding standard requirements.
Cabelte has been following this evolution by enriching its technical competences and getting the most suitable equipments for manufacturing and testing the different types of cables. Nowadays, the range of cables comprise thousands of references divided by several families of products, to be used on low voltage power transmission for public networks, industrial and housing applications, railways, airports, etc..
Cables are manufactured according to both national and international (CENELEC, CEI, EN, etc) standards from different countries (Portugal, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, etc) and also particular specifications issued by some customers.
Additional technical requirements may also be considered to comply, for instance, with harsh environment applications and adverse conditions.
GENERAL OUTLINE
There is a wide range of different construction of low voltage power cables. Neverthless, it is possible to identify 3 constituent parts:
- Conductors ensuring electric power transmission,
- Insulation ensuring the perfect degree of electrical safety, for the specified rated voltage,
- Sheaths for cable external protection, which characteristics essentially regard the application and installation conditions.
The most common materials used on conductors is copper and aluminium because of their high conductivity level and easy handling.
In what concerns the insulation materials, the most used are the compounds of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and cross linked polyethylene (XLPE). PVC has gradually been replaced by XLPE since the polyethylene has better electrical characteristics and endure higher temperatures.
With regard to cables protection, sheaths are usually made of polymeric materials and, when a higher mechanical protection is required, wire armours or metallic tapes are applied.
The growing need of people and building safety requires the usage in many installations of low voltage cables with improved fire behaviour. The sheaths and insulations of these fire proof cables are made of compounds with low halogen degree and, when submitted to fire, they exhibit low smoke emission, low opacity and low corrosivity emission.
In some special applications, namely in signalling and control circuits, it is important to reduce the electromagnetic interferences so, cables have a metallic screen, generally made of copper or aluminium wires or tapes
MAIN RANGE
The range of low voltage power cables produced and supplied by Cabelte is divided by the following main families:
- Harmonized conductors and cables for domestic and industrial applications
- Copper distribution cables
- Aluminium distribution cables
- Signalling, control and measuring cables
- Aerial Bundled cables
Besides the standard range, Cabelte has a long experience in supplying special low voltage power cables, designed to comply with the different technical conditions, accordingly with the required product characteristics or installation environment.
